Digital Life: Are You Cuil?

Here's another website your neighbors haven't heard about. Cuil, www.cuil.com is aiming to be a competitor to Google. Founded by a gaggle of ex-googlers, this group may actually have a new way to search.

Besides a new search mechanism, Cuil has a great new look in the way it presents your hits. Move of a newspaper layout than just a list. Give it a try and let me know what you think by posting comments to this story.

Kids College: Flipbook Mania

The kids attending our Flipbook class this summer had a lot of fun. Instructor Tye Durbin took making paper flipbooks to a new level by scanning in the pages of the flipbooks and teaching students how to color there flipbook pages using Photoshop Elements. The students then learned how to make electronic flipbooks with Elements.

Students ranged from age 8 to 13 and created a wild assortment of flipbooks. They also learned how hard it would be to create a movie like Wall-e. I was informed by one 8 year old that Wall-e had "29 pictures per second" and would take me "a couple hours to draw each one."

Click on the gallery below to see some of the animated flipbooks the students made in this class.

Internet: Get Ahead of the Pack With This Tidbit

Found a great website that is just about to launch. Maghound. Titled the Magazine Lover's Best Friend, this website is preparing to go live very soon. Looks like you will be able to read a selection of your favorite magazines for one low monthly fee. Kind of like Netflix for magazines.

Not sure how this is going to work... it isn't running yet, but, it could be an inexpensive way to get your magazine fix and save a lot of paper as well.

Will write about it more when it does go live. For now, you have gotten a scoop on your neighbors!

Community: You Missed the Party!

The Cordata Neighborhood Picnic was here on campus June 28th. Food, vendors, music was available to all. It was a lot of fun and great to meet so many people that live around the campus. The Cordata Neighborhood Association did a wonderful job!
